Classical guitars are acoustic guitars with a special head and tuning system. They use nylon strings as opposed to steel strings on acoustic and electric guitars. The neck is usually much wider as well, this is because the strings are placed farther apart because you play without a plectrum, or pick. They usually have standard tuning (E, A, D, G, B, e) but of course this is not required. Some have built in pickups so that they can be plugged into amps or recording devices. Playing a classical guitar usually involves placing it on your left knee (for right handed players) as opposed to your left knee like an electric or acoustic, and it is played a more vertical angle to facilitate playing with your fingers instead of a pick, a type of playing called 'finger picking'. When it comes to strumming, most players grow out the fingernails on their right hand so that they can strum with those and produce a louder more solid chord, however you can strum with your thumb as well.
